The human head isn’t perfectly round, and no two heads are identical in shape or size. That’s why there’s no one-size-fits-all helmet system.
If you’re unsure as to how to fit and adjust your helmet, we’re happy to offer a couple tips. The top two considerations:
- What’s on your head?
- What’s keeping it there?
In other words, look at the liner system and retention system.
The liner system in a helmet should offer impact absorption, improved fit and comfort. We offer an adjustable comfort pad system, with a set of both thick and thin comfort pads included with our EXFIL® SAR, EXFIL® Ballistic and EXFIL® Ballistic SL. Plus, Team Wendy size charts are located on product pages.
If your helmet isn’t a Team Wendy product then consider one of our drop-in combat helmet liner systems like the EPIC® and the EPIC Air® Fit, which also come in varying thicknesses. To reach the best fit, you can customize both the placement and the thickness of the pads to eliminate hot spots and complement the shape of your head.
There’s no law saying you have to exclusively use the thin or thick pad set, either. You can give the helmet a tighter or looser fit in the front and back by adjusting the thickness and/or amount of padding at those ends of the shell. If the helmet is too loose or tight from left to right, simply adjust the thickness of the padding on the sides.
Our game-changing CloudLine™ System can be implemented beyond the standard ACH/ECH helmets and comes in two sizes. It utilizes uniquely designed comfort pad shapes that can be arranged for customized fit and comfort.
Understanding your retention system is key to making sure your helmet stays in place. The retention system should provide a close, comfortable fit around your face and chin while also maintaining balance and stability, even as helmet accessories are added.
Our patented CAM FIT™ Retention System is a four-point retention system with an integrated BOA® Fit System. Rather than driving pressure up through your chin or through the back of your head, the Team Wendy CAM FIT™ conforms to your head and evenly distributes pressure, like a belt around your waist. If the retention system is too loose then four adjustable straps – secured by Cam Lock sliders – can be moved closer to the chin cup. If it’s too tight, just position them closer to the nape pad.
If you’re looking to improve the fit of a standard ground combat helmet, retrofitting it with the EPIC Air™ and the CAM FIT™ can go a long way.
The variety of options available for sizing and adjustment to Team Wendy helmets help ensure your helmet suits your head. All of our helmets except for the EXFIL® SAR come in at least two sizing options. To get the best approximation of which helmet size is right for you, take the time to actually measure your head circumference and compare it to the sizing chart available on each respective product page on our website. To get the most accurate measurement, you should stand upright and look straight ahead, and the tape measure should wrap around the widest circumference of your head above your eyebrows.
Once you place the order and a Team Wendy helmet arrives at your door, spend time customizing your comfort pads and adjusting the retention system to what works best for you. When it comes to head protection systems, you shouldn’t compromise with even minor discomforts. And with our patented products, you won’t have to.
Proper fit is necessary to ensure that your helmet is providing maximum protection. If you need more personal assistance with adjusting your helmet, reach out to info@teamwendy.com.
